The 2011-12 men's basketball team finished 29-8 on the season and 12-5 in Peach Belt Conference action in one of the most historic seasons in Montevallo Division II program history. The Falcons earned the Peach Belt Conference West Division Regular Season Championship before winning the Peach Belt tournament title and booking a trip to the NCAA tournament. In the tournament, Montevallo claimed the Southeast Regional Championship after three wins at home over Barton, 96-87, Lincoln Memorial, 61-60, and Anderson, 86-73, to move on to the Elite Eight. Next, Montevallo topped Metro State, 67-65. In the Final Four, the Falcons defeated Bellarmine 79-72, for the 10th consecutive win, to punch a ticket to the National Championship game for the first time in program history. The historic run fell short in the National Championship to Western Washington, 72-65. Still, Montevallo capped off a historic season as the National Runners-Up for the first time in program history. Montevallo tied the record for the most wins in the Division II era with 29. The 2011-12 men's basketball team was comprised of Antoine Davis, Jervan Jackson, D.J. Rivera, Travis DeShazior, Danny Cummings, DeMarcus Catchings, Ryan May, Jonas Brown, Parrish Grant, Drico Hightower, Chauncey Thompson, Marvin Fitzgerald, Tony Williams and Jeff Hefner. Head Coach Danny Young led Montevallo with Assistant Coach Stetson Hairston. Michael Chadwick served as the athletic trainer. The team set the program's Division II record in free throws made with 631, rebounds with 1,514, steals with 334 and scored the second-most points in a season with 2,769.Â
