Tony Cappola played baseball at Montevallo from 1997-2000. He was a First Team All-American in 2000, two-time First Team All-Gulf South Conference and was twice named to the All-Region squads. He was the GSC East Division Player of the Year in 2000. He had his number, 29, retired by the baseball program. He had a career batting average of .383 and holds numerous spots in the Montevallo record book. He is tied for the lead for most runs scored in a game (5), most hist in a game (5), most RBIs in a season (70) and most total bases in a game (13). He holds sole possession of the number one spot in most doubles in a season (22) and total bases in a season (162). He also has the number two spot in total bases in a season (161). He has numerous career records as well including most games played (214), most at bats (783), most base hits (300), most doubles (59) and total bases (482). Following his collegiate career he went on to sign a professional contract with the Anaheim Angels and spent some time in the minor leagues.
