Coming out of McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile, Alabama, Candi was one of the most highly recruited athletes in the state. She chose to go the The University of Alabama and was a starter as a freshmen until the Capstone phased out volleyball.
Skipper then went to the University of Minnesota but quickly decided the climate was better down south. She transferred to the University of Montevallo and history was soon to be made.
The 5'7" outside hitter quickly became one of the premier players in the NAIA. According to former volleyball coach Beverly Warren, Candi was the quickest player she'd ever seen. Her uncanny ability to read opponents' defenses helped her become the all time digs per game leader at UM.
Skipper was one of the driving forces that helped her 1984-85 teams to consecutive 7th place finishes in the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament.
In 1985 she became the first UM volleyball player to be named NAIA 1st Team All-American. The honors she received show the impact she made on her sport: 2nd Team All-American in 1984, Russell Athletic 2nd Team All-American, All-NAIA District 27 in 1984-85 and in 1985 she was voted District 27 Player of the Year. Tournament honors: MVP Texas Wesleyan Inv., MVP College of Charleston Inv., All-Tournament UT-Martin Inv. And The University of Mississippi Inv.
Skipper received her degree in HPER from Montevallo in 1985 and is currently living in Mobile with husband Mike and son Mikey.
