Jeff Segar played baseball at Montevallo from 1998-2000. He was a First Team All-American in 2000 and has his number, 31, retired by the Montevallo baseball program. He was a First Team All-GSC pick in 2000 as well. He holds the single season record for highest batting average at Montevallo, .450 in 2000. Tied for first for most hits in a game at UM with five and ranked second for most base hits in a season with 98. He ranks second for doubles in a season (21) and third for RBIs in a season (68). Following his career at Montevallo he became just the third player in Montevallo history selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. He went as the 28th pick in the 23rd round to the New York Yankees. He went on to be selected as a South-Atlantic League All-Star in 2002 and finished the season tied for third in homeruns behind current MLB All-Star Ryan Howard and former Cleveland Indians third basemen Andy Marte. He was rated as a Golden Prospect by Topps in 2001.
