Hansell Gunn enrolled at the University alongside teammate Lonnie Edwards as the first two African-American student-athletes at the school, with his playing career spanning 1969-71. Gunn is a well-respected alumnus of the University and is recognized for blazing a path for future African-American student-athletes at the University. Gunn spent 39 years as a superintendent, principal, teacher and coach at elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in his professional career. Gunn earned both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Physical Education at the University of Montevallo.
