"Tee" came to UM in the fall of 1983 after having led Valencia (Florida) Junior College in Orlando to a 26-5 record and a second place finish in the state tournament. At Valencia Junior college, she was picked as All-conference, All-State and All-State Tournament Team.

At UM, Tee led her Falcon team in all-around play and matches participated in. For two years she was consistently among the team leaders in kills, assists, aces, digs and attack percentage. In her first season, she played in all 50 matches, notching 312 kills, 79 serving aces, 726 assists and led the team in single game attack percentage with .59 against NCAA Div.I opponent Mississippi State University.

Her accomplishments are all the more amazing due to the fact that Straughn stands only 5'4"! For her efforts and accomplishments, she was a two-time All-District 27 selection and NAIA 2nd Team All-American pick in 1983 and 1984. She is currently a physical education teacher at Brubaker Middle School in Montgomery and stays active in volleyball by serving as an official.
