Herman Watts is a former men's basketball standout at the University of Montevallo from 1968-70.  After an early season ankle injury his junior year, Watts returned after the Christmas break to average nearly 17 points-per-game the second half of the season.  He was team captain for the school's first winning season his senior year. Watts was also a starting infielder for the Falcons baseball team.  He won the Circle K Sportsmanship Award both seasons. Professionally, Watts had an outstanding career with the Alfa Insurance Companies.  He began his tenure with Alfa in 1978 as a District Sales Manager, earning the Manager of the Year Award for a record 15 consecutive years. In 2006, he was named the Executive Vice President – Marketing, with responsibility for sales for the entire company. Prior to joining Alfa, Watts was a basketball and football coach at Calera and Thompson High Schools in Shelby County.  He was the first varsity football coach in school history at Pelham High school.  Watts served nine years on the University of Montevallo Foundation Board.  He gave the commencement address for the graduating class in August, 2011.  He has given generously to the University since his playing career ended.
