Walker distinguished himself by earning South States All-Conference honors in 1973 and 1974. During his junior season in 1973, Walker became the first Montevallo golfer to participate in the NAIA National Championship after earning District 27 Championship medalist honors. Walker had a 75.39 stroke average over his four-year career at Montevallo. During his final two seasons, Walker's scores counted towards the team's total in 35 of 37 rounds. In 1974, Walker was named the team’s Most Valuable Player. Upon graduation in 1974, Walker attended and graduated from The University of Alabama Law School. After law school, he was elected to serve as associate editor of the Alabama Law Review before serving as a law clerk for United States District Judge W.
