2002 UM Hall of Fame Inductee Dr. Robert M. McChesney was named the 13th president of the University of Montevallo in July 1992. Dr. McChesney has been a longtime and vocal supporter of the University of Montevallo men's and women's athletic programs and was one of the driving forces for guiding the Falcons and Lady Falcons from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II. Born in Effingham, Illinois, he graduated with highest honors from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, majoring in history/political science. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, Woodrow Wilson Department of Government and Foreign Affairs. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi, and Golden Key. He is a past Chairman of the Alabama Council of College and University Presidents and of the Partnership Advisory Council of the Higher Education Partnership. He has served as the Commissioner from Alabama on the Executive Council of the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He is inducted into the 2002 University of Montevallo Athletic Hall of Fame for meritorious service.
